22 Oct Eye care in children
Routine eye examination should be done at:
Around 3 yr : for general eye health and vision screening
Around 5 yr: for their vision and to rule out squint
Children with glasses : regularly every 6 months
When to reach eye doctor :
Poor focus during reading
Eye rubbing
Doesn’t follow/track objects
Watering
Redness
Poor eye movement or misaligned eye after 6 mnths /squinting
Difficulty in distant object like tv, blackboard
Poor
Lots of spelling mistake
Frequent headaches esp during studies/ evening
common eye problems in children:
refractive errors: children need glasses for:
Myopia: difficulty in distant vision
Hypermetropia
Astigmatism: cylindrical power
Amblyopia: poor vision in otherwise normal eyes.it requires treatment at correct age ( earliest ) or it becomes irreversible damage.
Orthoptics issue: child may have problem during focusing, headaches due to convergence/divergence/ accommodation issues
Strabismus: squint ( outward / inward)
Others : like cataract, glaucoma,retinal problems are checked during eye examination
So my advice is : don’t ignore your child’s health. please visit your nearest ophthalmologist.
